My students need seating options such as balance balls, bean bag chairs and a variety of seating cushions to help keep their moving bodies focused and engaged in learning!
My 3rd grade students are on their way to become future leaders! In my class my students know that I encourage student voice and choice in order for students to learn from each other and to be the best that they can be! My classroom is a place of collaboration and discussion because my students know that they all have something important to share and together we are smarter and can learn more!
During our school day, we have open large and small group discussions and work time where students are able to share their way of learning so that others can see a variety of methods to solve a problem or complete a task.
I have noticed that all students thrive in this type of collaborative environment where their voice is heard and they have a variety of choices to show what they know and have learned.
Third graders are young and have a lot of energy and a lot of good ideas! They need to move around the classroom in order to actively participating in a variety of activities - individual activities, group work, projects, and discussions.
My Project
Students in my class work in an environment of teamwork and collaboration. We meet as a class to discuss and share strategies to solve problems in math and to learn new strategies for reading comprehension. Student's individual perspectives are welcome and different methods are shared. Students often work in partners and groups as they are solving math problems or reading books and working on comprehension strategies together.
My students are welcome to find a suitable place to work together with others or a good space to work alone.
A lot of students seek out a space where they can have room to move their bodies and shift around as they work together or independently. I have noticed that when students can regulate their own body movement, they are engaged and focused on their task, and learning and work output is at a very high level.
At this time I have very few options for seating in my classroom. With this project, I want to be able to give students more options for them to regulate their own body movement so that they can be engaged in their learning and be the best that they can be.
