My students are amazing creators, learners, and inventors. They all are diagnosed with Autism, but that is just one part of who they are. My students love to laugh, play, use technology, build, and create. They are loving individuals who need extra support to grow and learn. We use lots of visual supports in my classroom to support the learners. There is lots of structure in my class that allows students to be as independent as possible. I love my students a lot, and I know they have so much to offer to our world!
My Project
I am requesting items to offer flexible seating in my classroom. I am asking for student rockers, wiggle seats, chair bands (for bouncing feet), and other items in order to help my students be more successful in the classroom. These items will be used to cater to the specific needs of each student in my class.
My students crave movement.
They run, jump, and bounce all day in my classroom. Movement breaks have to occur as a natural part of our day, but they often interrupt instructional time. I want to use these flexible seating options to offer my students movement in a way that will help them to continue their work and increase their focus and success.
I specifically want to use the rockers for students who balance their chairs on 2 legs, as well as the wiggle seats for students who struggle to regulate their body movement. These items, as well as the others, will help my students to move while maintaining focus on critical classroom instruction.
