Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a first grade teacher at a Title I school in North Las Vegas, Nevada. Our population is mostly EL students, and the entire school receives free breakfast and lunch every day. The kids at our school are hard working, positive, and come to school ready to learn and work hard!
I have a great group of students this year!
They are kind, respectful, and hard working. We are able to joke around but are also able to get down to business and do some hard core learning! My students shock me often with their inclusive and helpful hearts and souls, and I am so proud of the people they are becoming.
My Project
In our classroom, every student meets with me daily in some sort of small group. I meet with students at the round table for reading every morning, as well as math and reading help for the students who need a little extra practice. We check our writing at the back table, and at times the students will use technology to enter online programs to further their learning. Long story short, we use our back table A LOT!
The problem is, twenty-one 6 year olds moving chairs around to rotate centers in a small, portable classroom is distracting and a big waste of learning time!
If we had seats at each center for easy rotations, our learning time would increase tremendously! These tree seats will make transitioning much easier for my noodleheads, as they will be ready-to-go seating at our back table! I know my students will absolutely LOVE them, and that will get their little bodies sitting at the back table even quicker :)
I plan to use the wobble seats in the library for reading and technology time, as well as on seats for some of my friends who are always moving around and tipping in their chairs. If they have a wobble seat to move around on, I guarantee that their bottoms will stay where they are supposed to be!
My students need the caddies for organizational purposes. The ones that we are using now are several years old and are getting pretty yucky. I have tried time and time again to clean off the crayon and pencil and glue that is caked on and inside of them, but unfortunately my cleaning efforts are no longer working! These shiny new caddies will help us stay organized and neat at our tables.
