My Students
Our students are enthusiastic and motivated learners that are excited about engaging in library activities. They actively seek out activities that stimulate creativity, curiosity, resiliency, problem solving, self-direction, and self-evaluation. Our library, by design, is a “safe” space where students can learn to embrace learning through trial and error; it’s likely that at first we won’t succeed, so students develop grit, persistence and a love for problem-solving and critical thinking through creative expression and playing strategic games, such as chess and checkers. These traits promote effective learning across disciplines and will help position students to successfully transition to the future job market.
Students from different grade levels, teachers, staff and community members can come together in our library media center to solve problems and to exchange ideas.
We believe in seeking community sponsorships to support the development of game stations and makerspaces, and partnering with outside organizations and individuals to introduce new skills, expertise, and experiences, thereby building bridges that expand outside the walls of the school and build citizenship within students.
My Project
My students need flexible seating, three SoftZone Kids Gaming Rockers, in order to have some degree of choice and control over their learning environment. Flexible seating encourages communication between students and supports collaboration and social emotional development. These chairs will make flexible seating within the library possible. Students will be able to move the seats around the library as needed. Students will be able to communicate and collaborate as they develop social and emotional skills. Middle school students can struggle at times with interactions with others. And flexible seating encourages face to face communication with others.
Through this flexible seating we can create an environment of active, engaged, enthusiastic, and relaxed learners that enjoy the learning environment that they are in.
We want students to see the library media center as an engaging but comfortable learning center.
