My 7th and 8th-grade science students are typical of their age group, very full of energy and adventurous. Many of these students face a lot of challenges each day both in and out of the classroom. I feel certain they would enjoy the option to move from their traditional seating in the classroom.
Many of my students are being raised in single-parent households and receive lower income benefits including free lunches.
While I cannot control their home life, I do strive to create a very positive atmosphere and environment each day in my classroom. I also receive inspiration from my students when I see positive results from alternative methods of teaching.
Thank you in advance for your consideration of my proposed project.
My Project
During class, my students ask to move onto the floor or to a small rug I placed towards the front of the room. Each day they rush to the rug to ensure they have a spot to sit. This is what inspired me to apply for a grant in an effort to enrich their learning environment. My ultimate goal is to better their education.
When I was the age of my students I remember wanting alternative classroom seating.
I would love to give my students some bean bags, lap desks, butterfly chairs, and ottomans, in the hopes that it will encourage learning and better prepare them for their futures.
By donating to this project, you will help me obtain and provide multiple "non-traditional seating" locations within my classroom.
