Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students live in the Edgewood, Kirkwood, and East Lake communities in Atlanta. This neighborhood is changing quickly. Our school serves students in pre-k through the fifth grade. Many of our students' families struggle financially, but our families are very involved and know most teachers and other students by name.

I love my school.

Our staff is a family; our students are bright, inquisitive, and deserve every opportunity to learn and grow. Thanks for stopping at my page, and I hope you will help.

My Project

One of the goals of any kindergarten classroom is to teach independence. Our classroom library will accomplish this goal. While students are independently reading, they will be able to sit with their friends in our class library. To read on their own or read with a friend, they will need comfortable seating, and a lamp to help them feel cozy and relaxed.

I want to foster a love of reading in all my students.

Giving them a safe, restful area to do this will help accomplish this goal. The beanbags, floor cushions, and lamp will give them a reading area that they feel like is their own.
