My students need this classroom furniture set to have an adequate space to learn language! They are in a crucial time for development, especially as it relates to communication and this furniture would be incredibly helpful.
My students are ages 3-5 years old and attend the special needs preschool program. They are students that have been identified to have developmental delays in multiple areas. My job is to teach them language! Many of my students have Autism Spectrum Disorder, intellectual delays, or a syndrome that requires them to be placed in this specialized program. They are a joy to work with and really blossom from receiving this specialized instruction.
I currently work with them directly in the classroom which gets tricky for my kiddos with a difficult time sitting still and attending to tasks.
Learning language is crucial for their development, and I currently don't have a proper place to teach them these skills.
Most of my students enjoy coming to the speech office to get one on one attention. It also helps that they get to leave with a goodie or two! However, I am currently doing all treatment in this small space on the floor, which can get tricky when completing craft projects. It is especially challenging to conduct kindergarten transition evaluations when they don't have a proper place to sit and help them understand it is work time.
My Project
These materials would give my students a place in the speech room that is their own to work on their receptive and expressive language. Most of my students need a structured setting to attend to tasks and make meaningful improvements that they can take pride in.
The rainbow shaped table with chairs gives me access to each student in a small group setting and allows me to give them that one:one attention that they crave!
In addition, having a space that is accessible for evaluations needed as they transition from the special needs preschool to kindergarten; it is important that they have a space to sit and attend. This would prevent from outside distractions causing them to perform poorly and be over identified by assessments, which would lead to placement in a special needs kindergarten when it is not necessary.
