Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is a growing charter school with about 70% of the student body receiving free or reduced-price lunch. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds and multiple labels ODD, ADHD, ADD, OHI, ELL, and more. Their diversity isn't limited to just their backgrounds, but to the ways they learn best as well.
We are a fully inclusive elementary school that serves just over 500 students.
My students come to school eager to learn, whether or not they have support at home. They work hard to try to meet the high expectations of the teachers at the school. They thrive on new academic experiences and show the most growth with hands-on, real world activities.
My Project
In my classroom, we rotate through 5 literacy centers each day. One of those centers is the guided reading station, where students work with me. These wheeled swivel chairs would be so helpful to have at this guided reading station. Not only are they adjustable, so students can raise and lower them to be at the best height for the table, but they are also on wheels so they can quickly and easily roll over to me if they need more one on one help, or can roll closer to a classmate when we work with partners.
Having the right seating at guided reading keeps the students focused on the reading lesson and off the chair.
