I am a fourth year teacher in JCPS. Being a Title I school means that a high percentage of our children are from low income families. Our goal is to ensure that all children have the opportunity to meet and exceed challenging state academic standards. Many of my students struggle with confidence in their ability to learn which usually results in behavior problems. Every school year, I love having the chance to see their confidence grow inside my classroom. I am constantly looking for new ways to engage all students from all backgrounds.
Since we are a Title I school, students receive two meals a day at no charge to them or their families.
As always, my students for the upcoming school year will need more ways to engage in reading to improve their comprehension, fluency and vocabulary. Reading is one of the most challenging subjects to teach due to the lack of interest in a text. During the past year, I have taken 3 reading courses through local colleges to discover ways to improve my literacy block in my classroom and to find new ways to increase my students' interest in reading.
My Project
I will be using the stools for small group instruction. Students enjoy sitting in different types of seats. Stools will be used for rewards during whole group and also flexible seating during small group instruction. The storage bins will be used to help keep task cards organized and easily accessible for all students. Containers will be organized with math facts to support math fluency. The other set of storage bins will be used to organize task cards to support reading skills such as phonics and comprehension.
These materials will help my students to be able to move around my classroom easily.
