My Students
Welcome to my very active classroom serving students kindergarten through second grades with varying abilities. Most of my students are on the Autism Spectrum and need to learn how to work in small groups to be successful. They require a variety of ways to access the curriculum. Many visual aids and schedules adorn our walls and desks.
My students enjoy getting messy, experiencing new things and exploring the world around them by learning the language and social skills.
My students want to learn how to belong and be included with others in their grade level. They enjoy being outside and learning from each other. Peers are more important than the teacher to my students and any learning to incorporate others is a good thing.
My Project
I have an active classroom with curious minds at work. The students I teach range in abilities. They have to learn social skills, group work, and independent learning skills. This project will provide choices of seating to optimize learning.
This project will empower my students to: make choices, regulate their bodies with sensory supports, and to do their best learning.
Students will have access to various sensory supports, choices of seats for floor work, and ways to provide visual cues about time.
My classroom is a flow of energy that is positive and busy. The needs of each student is important to me. They all calm their bodies differently and need to regulate. I need to support their sensory needs, as well as their social needs to belong. This project will make that happen with group work at the kidney table, choices of OT ball chairs, and wiggle seats for regulation with empowering them to make decisions of what works best for them at what lesson. Various seating arrangements also help students become more in tune to what they are doing by allowing them movement.
