Teaching in Alaska is an experience like no other. Unfortunately, this school year is also like no other as we deal with the consequences of quarantines and varying school schedules.
We are a small, fishing village located on Bristol Bay.
To access our village, you must take a plane or a boat ride. It makes life interesting! The Yup'ik culture has strong ties here, and our district strives to revitalize the language and way of life among our students.
My students strive to learn more about the world outside of theirs, as well as the area in which they live. We do this through projects and reading.
My Project
I love giving my students alternative seating options! The more comfortable a child is the more they are willing to participate. Alternative seating provides students choice, which is always a positive thing.
Seating can make all the difference with some children!
I have found that providing various seating arrangements helps keep students focused and on task while we are doing lessons. It also has a way of separating those "groups" the might cause small issues, because the students sit in the type of seat they wish. students are more willing to become a part of the class discussions.
