I am blessed to work with a wonderful group of students in a small school. I work with all students in grades Kindergarten through 8 throughout the year. My students are talented, inquisitive, enthusiastic individuals who love learning.
My students come to school every day ready to learn and have embraced our small charter school as an extension of their own families.
Many of my students face challenges in their daily lives that can impact their learning. As their school counselor, I strive to provide the additional support they need to be successful in the classroom and in life.
My Project
As a second-year school counselor, I am still defining my space and making it into the best possible space for my students. My goal is to turn my office into a comfortable, calming space where students are able to relax, process their emotions, develop coping strategies, and strengthen their skills. Throughout the year, I run a number of student support groups, and I currently meet with those groups in the conference room due to a lack of seating in my office.
A new table, chairs, and file cabinet would allow me to relocate files currently taking up space in my office and replace my current file storage with an activity table where my students can work.
This would allow me the flexibility to conduct groups in my office and would prevent having to cancel or reschedule group sessions when my school's lone conference room is unavailable. The addition of this table and chairs will ensure a dedicated workspace for my students and will alleviate the stress of trying to find an appropriate space to conduct our group meetings.
