I work in a very small district, our city is less that 6 square miles. There is a great sense of pride in the community. Children grow up here, buy houses here, and raise their families here only to start the cycle over again. A large number of the teaching and support staff are graduates of our district or currently live in our district. I've never seen such a strong sense of pride in a city. It's a place where everyone really does know your name. That sense of community begins in my classroom and it's exciting to be such an integral part of that.
Two years ago I created my first donors choose project to implement flexible seating in my kindergarten classroom.
Young children are not meant to sit still for extended periods of time.
Giving my students the freedom to choose where to sit during learning times has significantly decreased unwanted behaviors and increased student achievement and time spent on task. I'm able to spend more time planning lessons and less figuring out how to arrange my students to minimize off task behaviors.
I've had such great success with my current arrangement, I'd like to give my students more seating options for work times. These chairs would allow my students to "get the wiggles out" while they work.
