This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Next Year I will be teaching second grade again! My school is in a low-income urban area serving students from K-5, who are predominantly African American.
Second grade is a year of new beginnings and academic growth for students.
My students will come to me on a variety of levels academically. Having such a wide range of academic levels we need to use various methods to provide support. We will spend this year growing as individuals socially, emotionally and academically.
My Project
Students are spending more and more time sitting still in class. It is becoming more and more difficult to stay seated and focused on instruction. Through DonorsChoose.org I have been able to complete many fun projects. However, even those have become difficult for my students to sit through.
They just need to get their wiggles out!
I believe that flexible seating is the answer. I am hoping to allow students to have a choice in how they sit during work times in the classroom. The variety of seats and chair bands will help my students be able to fidget and get that energy out while continuing to engage in instruction.
