Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are English Language Learners and some are new arrivals to the US. As kindergartners, for most of my students this is their first school experience.
Their eyes are full of wonder at each new experience.
Many of them are very shy at first and often need comforts to encourage them.
A couple of students arrived to school close to the end of last year. This coming year should provide them with the opportunity to move on next year.
It is important that these children get every advantage to succeed.
My Project
The flexible seating option will serve multiple purposes in my kindergarten classroom.
This will give students autonomy by allowing them to choose where they complete their assignments.
Many children do not have the opportunity to make choices in their daily lives. They can learn about how to make a good decision for themselves. This can help them in school and ultimately in life. Students learn best when they have a choice about their learning environment.
These wobble seats are also especially good for students with special needs that may benefit from a non-traditional chair. As the name Kore suggests, although spelled uniquely, these chairs will help build up the children’s core muscles while releasing extra energy.
Flexible seating also provides a sense of community within the classroom. Students will better understand why it is important to take turns and share.
Finally, these chairs may be more comfortable than standard classroom chairs to students. We all can relate that we can focus and learn easier when we feel more relaxed.
