My school is a Title I school that consists of primarily economically disadvantaged students from countries across the globe. These students don't have the same opportunities and experiences as other students who are more financially stable. They face a variety of daily challenges in their home life, such as that their parents are first generation immigrants working to make daily ends meet. They should be able to receive the same opportunities in education.
Poverty is not a hindrance to success.
As educator, in order to be responsive to the needs of the our students, it is important to understand the problem that poverty places on children's lives and how it influences academic achievement. Althought my students are not able to provide the materials they may need to be successful in school, that does not mean they should not be given the opportunity to experience a memorable year in Kindergarten.
My Project
I have been in a portable classroom for 5 years and have the same frustration every September. Where are my students going to keep their material? We have very small circular tables that hold up to 6 students with nowhere to keep pencils, scissors, crayons or workbooks. Storing personal belongings and school supplies is that much easier with seat sacks. The chair pockets are high quality, durable chair pockets with multiple compartments. This makes storing school supplies, completed work, and leveled readers a breeze! Instead of having my students put away their papers in a mailbox, they can put it in their seat sacks!
Creating an organized environment is essential to a student's success.
This project would maximize the small space that I have in my classroom and make student organization so much easier.
