This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a group of rambunctious, inquisitive, caring first graders. We love reading, writing, drawing, and playing together. My students always come to school excited to learn with their friends by their side.
This school year, we are focused on building a strong, supportive classroom community.
Students come to school knowing they are loved and are safe to make mistakes and learn. We will work together every day to help each other learn and grow. Many of my students don't have access to learning materials at home. This means they need extra support in the classroom to reach their goals. Our activities need to be engaging in order for my students to gain the knowledge they need to be successful.
My Project
Our classroom promotes community and collaboration by having students sit at tables and work together. We learn to take pride in our classroom and community by sharing supplies like pencils and markers. The only drawback is we need somewhere to store our supplies! The Seat Sacks will help all our students be organized with their materials. Students will begin learning important organizational skills by keeping their folders and notebooks in their Seat Sacks.
Guided Reading is the most important part of our day.
The set of leveled guided reading books will bring access to books at my students' independent reading levels. High interest books are key to developing a love of reading. The magnetic letters will be an engaging activity to help my students master spelling sight words as well as blends and digraphs. Through these materials, I know my students will be set up for success for this school year and beyond.
