Do you like to come into a classroom and see it messy or neat? Of course we all like to see a nice neat classroom. My students need to have seat sacks so they can keep their materials close but they also need to learn to keep them neat in a seat sack!
My students are from rural West Tennessee.
The students come from a variety of backgrounds. Some live in poverty while others live in homes where both parents work and have college degrees. The school has students from Pre-K to third grade. My class is comprised of 12 boys and 7 girls. My students love hands on activities and peer to peer interaction. They are learning the foundations of reading and writing that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
My Project
I am requesting seat sacks for my students. These sacks slip over the back of their chairs. It has a large pocket for storage. The students will be able to keep materials that are quickly needed in the sacks. My students currently have desks that they store materials in. The desk tops lift up. The kindergarten students do not close them quietly. They often seems to compete with one another to see who can get their materials out the fastest which results in slamming desktops. If students had seat sacks they could keep their materials in the sacks on their chairs. The transition would be quieter as well as quicker with the seat sacks. Students would simply turn around and pull out what is needed. The seat sacks will also help the classroom look neat and organized. I have chosen seat sacks in red, green, yellow, and blue. This will help me to divide my students into groups. The groups can be identified by their seat sack color!
Kindergarten is the foundation of all future learning.
My students will learn to be organized by using the seat sacks. The seat sack colors will help with classroom management and can be reused year after year. My students will leave my classroom with the foundations of reading, math, writing, science, social studies, and organization. The seat sacks will help them to achieve these goals.
