Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students bring their joy to me each day. I walk into a classroom that is full of eager energy. From the big to the small, we are celebrating. We celebrate a student moving one reading level after six years of no movement. We celebrate the entire class understanding a standard. We celebrate each other just because it's needed. Some days we might be celebrating that they showed up to school even though their circumstances and issues are harder than any adult might face.
My kids face devastating poverty, fear of homelessness and deportation.
These issues would ordinarily hinder most kids, but my kids push on. The daily struggles that they face could stop them from trying and prevent them from learning, but it doesn't. They come to me each day with their heart in their hands and their minds open. Despite their situations, they learn. They do it each day, over and over again. They are the reason I wake up in the morning; they are the reason I persevere even though life gets me down. Because of them, I can be my best and reach my full potential. They are the inspiring ones, not me.
My Project
Seat sacks are essential to having an organized student. We, unfortunately, do not have desks that allow us to store our things. Therefore, to stay organized and cut down on getting materials and supplies, we need seat sacks.
Staying organized and having your materials at the ready is key to feeling successful.
A lot of my students come to school already facing insurmountable odds for success. By providing a classroom that is organized and ready to learn, they are one step closer to becoming who they are meant to be. Our classroom is small and does not allow for extras. Seat sacks will cut down on too many transitions and get us ready to learn!
