Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My first graders are enthusiastic and are eager to learn! They are thoughtful, kind, and caring. My goal as their teacher is to foster their love of learning and give them all of the opportunities possible that will lead them to a successful life. My students are from a small town in the high desert where the majority of families qualify for free breakfast and lunch and are struggling financially with limited or no money to buy school supplies or technology. They deserve to have clean, safe, and new materials, not affected by COVID, to start off their their year in fabulous first grade.
My Project
Having chair pockets for each students will benefit my first graders in several ways! We love having tables in our first grade classroom, but they offer no storage for individuals. Before COVID-19, I had many ways to store our classroom supplies, but it always required sharing or passing out materials. A useful class set of chair pockets will solve the dilemma of not having a desk to store personal items.
In the past, we were able to share supplies and materials like whiteboards and clipboards, but since the COVID-19 pandemic we will not be able to do that anymore.
With a class set of chair pockets, students can keep their individual materials handy and not have to share. Chair pockets in our classroom will make a huge difference for everyone as we make our way back to school for the new year.
