This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students attend a Title 1 school where 95% of the students are on free and reduced lunch. Many eat both breakfast and lunch on campus and don’t eat again until the next school day. My families rely heavily on public services and programs.
Their love of learning is strong.
When our students are at school their commitment to learning is evident, they just need a helping hand.
Knowing they have challenges at home, they come to school every day ready to learn and reach their goals. The school culture provides the safe space for their learning to grow and flourish.
My Project
Everyone is familiar with the standard student desks and chairs provided by all schools. We expect our students to sit and learn for up to 7 hours a day. Lap desks will allow students to sit on the floor and provide them a surface to complete their assignment. Yoga ball chairs and wobble stools give students a chance to move around and get their wiggles out while limiting class distractions.
With these flexible seating options, students will be able to choose the way they focus best!
They all have different learning styles. Flexible seating will give the students the choice to pick the best way to help them stay focused and learn their best each and every day. By increasing their ability to focus, I am allowing them to increase their learning. An increase of learning leads to better comprehension, self esteem and ultimately more successful students.
