This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My first and second grade, special needs students are struggling, yet hard-working learners with endless amounts of imagination and heart. These amazing children have been handed nothing in life and ask for even less. They are grateful for everything they have and see each day as a blessing. They will never know just how much joy they bring to my day with something as simple as, "Good morning, Ms. C."
The mission of my school, which lies in the heart of a rejuvenating and progressive community, is to ensure that all students maximize their academic potential, develop skills for lifelong learning, and are successful contributors to global society as distinguished by: Courageous advocacy for all students, family and community investment, data-driven specially designed instruction, strong and effective leadership teams, and the shared responsibility for teaching and learning with equity and fidelity.
My Project
My students don't have access to books when they are not at school, so I would like to give my students a specific book, The Snowy Day, that they can read with their families over the winter break. This is a classic book that I remember reading when I was their age, so my hope is that they will keep this book with them for years to come.
My students need to see themselves represented more in books that they read in and out of school.
The personalized pencils will not only allow them to keep their school supplies organized, but they can see their names in print.
