My NSBE Jr. scholars are high school students from SE Washington, DC. They are a part of the engineering club and they meet daily after school to build robots and cars using principles of engineering.
NSBE holds a national convention where engineering students compete in robotics, RC car, Trymathalon and Young Inventors competitions.
Students have been preparing all year to compete and would love the opportunity to attend the National Convention in Detroit, Michigan this spring. My students are eager to show their engineering skills and to meet with engineering majors across the country!
My students are from SE Washington, DC where they do not see many engineers. They will all be first generation college students and have been working hard to make college a reality. Throughout the year, they meet weekly afterschool to build robots, RC cars and to also work on math problems to compete at the National competition.
This opportunity will allow students to travel outside of the city to put their skills to test.
They get to network with other students and build relationships with college students who will become their mentors.
This opportunity also allows them to see that there is a place for themselves in college and in the engineering field.
