My students need class sets of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", "James and the Giant Peach", "The BFG", and "Matilda" to enhance their literary experience.
Our 34 students are wide-eyed sponges, and ready for a good tale. Their imaginations are open and in need of some mind blowing descriptive writing from the master, Roald Dahl! Out with the bland, in with "Kaapow!"
Our students here are curious, love to explore, comfortable with tackling tough challenges, and kind to one another (on most days).
Our school is a small community school with a population of around 300. We have wonderful parents/support and a great desire to work with the community. Unfortunately, our student body has some large financial holes that need filling, and we are constantly on the look for outside help. Please consider helping us out!
My Project
My students love to read, but not the dull old stories that put them to sleep. They need writing that almost instantly places them in the adventure; recognizing the heroine/hero's challenges, identifying with their problems and chomping at the bit to find out how these problems will be solved. They need Big Friendly Giant stories, and wonderfully descriptive stories about poor little boys living near a chocolate factory. The books we are requesting are written by perhaps the most gifted children's author of all times, Mr. Roald Dahl. He has the uncanny ability to put into words these incredible pictures that light up a story, almost force you to feel the plight of a little lost boy from England, smell the chocolate wafting in the air, and smile broadly when a young girl gets even with her nemesis. We desperately need these books in our classroom!
These books will be used to further our investigation into insects (science research); they will help promote thought provoking student stories (creative writing); and best of all, jet start the student's imaginations!
