My third grade students live in a low socioeconomic community and have many personal needs. However, the greatest need is their education. These students are currently working below grade level. They don't have many resources and/or opportunities to experience learning in fun-filled ways.
I'm always searching for opportunities to motivate the students to pick up reading materials. However, it becomes extremely difficult to do so when the classroom library has little to choose from.
Reader's Theater reading materials will be an exciting tool for my students' reading development. It will undoubtedly enhance their comprehension skills, increase their vocabulary abilities, and fuel their desire to read!
With Reader's Theater, my students will be able to read grade level text with at least 90 percent accuracy. It will help them read aloud with fluency in a manner that sounds like natural speech. In addition to speaking and fluency, Reader's Theater will help them develop their listening skills. All in all, Reader's Theater builds: confidence, enthusiasm, and fluency. Everything my students need.
