Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Scribble Press is a most wonderful company that allows students to insert their writing in a book and design their own cover. The back page includes a picture of the author and their biography.

My 5th graders are an energetic, magnetic bunch.

They live in a predominantly Spanish area of New York and don't have many opportunities to visit a a business like Scribble Press. My kids all receive free breakfast and lunch. There is little money for the extras.

My Project

This trip would be a great way to enrich my students' writing and give them an opportunity to have a way to showcase their hard work. Every student will include a page of their own writing and incorporate it with everyone else's writing. Then each student will design their own cover and have everyone's writing inside to keep and cherish forever.

Scribble Press is normally visited by wealthier families and schools in NYC.

My students would never have the opportunity or the funds to visit after school to put their writing in a book or take the writing classes that are offered. Having a book made of their writing during an afternoon at Scribble Press will boost their educational self-esteem and that I think is invaluable!
