MATH! Students see the word and they begin to melt down with fear and/or hate of even the thought of solving problems! "But I'm not good at it" is a common theme I hear from students. Due to these preconceived notions, I want to make math fun and appealing to students with the use of technology.
My students crave the use of technology.
There are classrooms within our school that have several technology pieces implemented, while there are also some that have not had the opportunity to have as much. My classroom is one that is in need of various technology tools. My students mostly come from very supportive families and we live in a community that does the best that it can to support our school. However, the reality is that sometimes there is just not enough money to fill every classrooms' needs. Therefore, I am looking to DonorsChoose to help my students have the opportunity to work with the technology that will benefit and promote achievement, specifically within math class.
My Project
With the use of 3 ipods, I will create screencasts of upcoming and/or current MATH lessons. Students will have the opportunity to review these screencasts on their ipods in class in order to be front loaded with the information prior to meeting in a math rotation group (with the teacher). Furthermore, the ipods will benefit students who need the extra support on a certain math concept. Students will have the opportunity to review the screencast for that particular concept in order to ensure that they are properly understanding the math lesson. Those students still having trouble after watching the screencast, will also have the opportunity to work on the ipods to practice basic facts and concepts through the many beneficial applications available.
Screencasting is one of the newest tools being used throughout classrooms.
I want my students to have the opportunity to experience screencasting in their math class in order to prepare and reteach them math concepts throughout the year. I have heard of the many benefits of screencasting and now I want to give my students the same chance to use technology to benefit their math achievement as others have done.
