Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students that attend the 8th grade full year Media Arts class can be described as highly energetic, curious and committed young artist as well as dedicated students. They have shown interest in various art mediums starting with hands-on projects such as stop motion productions to digital art illustrations using Adobe Illustrator.
Throughout these projects students have been able to express their personal interests as well as diverse points of view in a very respectful and creative manner.
I like to think of my students as constant creators and members of the immense and rich art scene present in the city of Providence, Rhode Island.
My Project
I'm looking to purchase screen printing materials for students to enhance their art based skills through technology and hands-on learning. The students will be able to create a design using Adobe Illustrator and later on print the design on t-shirts. The money raised from the sale of the t-shirts will be used to support the cost of producing the school's annual musical.
The students need screens, fabric acrylic paint, t shirts and squeegees to begin the project with AS220, a local community partner.
We will be working with a community based non-profit to print the t-shirt and learn the necessary skills to design their own clothing. Students will incorporate mathematics into the project by learning about profit and income from selling the shirts to fund the school musical.
