Screen Big Enough to Fit All My Students’ Happy Faces
Help me give my students a reliable laptop with a big screen that can show all my students' faces during our online sessions. I'll be able not only to hear but also to see the whole class.
I teach children from different parts of the world, who are living now in different parts of Brooklyn, NY, mostly in Coney Island neighborhood. Almost all of them are the boys and girls from immigrant families who came to the United States from six months to six years ago. Nevertheless, they are among the best in the school, since it's an honor to take Regents and Conceptual Physics courses. These days, the first time in 30+ years of my professional life, I teach not in our Physics auditorium but online. Distance learning can be an incredible asset for students who, due to COVID-19, are not able to meet in a traditional classroom setting.
Distance learning can and should be both a fun and effective educational process, but it also has some common problems, especially in the areas of isolation, support, and technology.
The physical absence of the instructor means that students may not be available for support when they need it most. My role as an online tutor is to help them by finding the missing building blocks and understanding difficult concepts, they may not be aware of.
My Project
I see the major problem of distance education in causing the participants on both sides to feel isolated.
Socially, my students may feel isolated and miss out on the interaction they enjoy in a classroom environment.
Therefore, I would like to find a way that provides opportunities for the whole class discussion and interaction.
Thanks to the Board of Education that provided all students and teachers with Microsoft Teams software and personal computers. The actual problem is that an 11-inch screen on teacher’s computer does not fit the whole class faces.
I need a reliable laptop with a big screen that can show me all my students during our online sessions. I will be able not only to hear but also to see the whole class. Students will be happy to see their classmates and to communicate with them not texting but talking to each other in real-time as they did in class.
