Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a diverse group of 5th graders in a gifted, high achieving, a STREAM magnet school located on a neighborhood school campus in a middle-class, blue-collar community. Some students ride up to 13 miles on buses or in cars from 5 surrounding cities to be part of this Science Technology Reading Engineering Arts Math (STREAM) magnet. We share the campus with a neighborhood school, an early education center, and a state-run preschool. We all come together to work hard and be kind.
These students are curious about the world, interested in a wide variety of subjects, and eager to try everything.
Therefore, the same old, same old will not cut it in this fast-paced, high energy classroom. We need a way to see the big picture and interact with our world as we learn.
My Project
There are several budding artists in my classroom. Many of my students work tirelessly with paper and pen or pastels and paints, but what they all want to do is create digital art. They dream of using a pen on a computer screen to achieve just the right shape or color. Just recently all of the students submitted artwork for the cover of our school yearbook, student after student said, I wish we could have done this on our computers. NOW with the Microsoft Surface Go 10 and stylus students will not only be able to draw and create digitally, but they will also be able to save their work forever.
The diversity of the Surface Go 10 will also allow students to draw math problems, annotate reading and record audio to go along with their notetaking in addition to digital artwork.
The students and teacher can use this tool to present a wide variety of digital information to the rest of the class. The Surface Go Dock will allow us to interface with our document reader and projector while the cover will keep it safe. The possibilities feel limitless.
