Help me give my students the experience to design and code unique projects using circuits with the Makey Makey Stem Pack.
Half of the students on our campus of 840 students come from other countries and speak over 30 diverse languages. To excel in science they need many hands-on activities to help build their knowledge of science concepts and vocabulary.
Our fifth graders have outstanding collaboration skills, and all they need is a little boost to help research real-world problems and come up with new ways to engineer products to solve these problems.
At our school, we focus on problem-solving and STEM projects from kindergarten. We give our students the skills that that allow our students to participate in the most advanced levels in middle school.
The Makey Makey Stem Pack Classroom Invention Literacy Kit will make a difference in my students' learning about parallel and series circuits because the Makey Makey circuit board kits allow so many diverse ways to create projects. Students can use any object to create inventions that use circuits to produce a real invention.
Unlike traditional circuits that only use batteries, wires, and outputs such as lights, buzzers, and motors, my students can program their inventions with Makey Makey.
Using Scratch, students then become proficient using coding. Coding helps students problem solve by taking larger problems and breaking them into smaller problems.
Imagine creating a piano using bananas or marshmallows, using coding to create an arcade game with a Makey Makey game controller, or even an interactive compass rose. The possibilities are endless.
After living in a Hurricane Harvey county and enrolling many students from other countries who have experienced hurricanes, we are ready to launch our students into coding with a purpose. This only just scratches the surface, but the Makey Makey coding STEM kits are age appropriate and introduce students to many fields of study. Our projects introduce them to future careers in science and technology and foster curiosity about how circuitry works. Please help them get started with the creating of real inventions that give students a purpose, and help them build new engineering skills.
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
