My students need file organizer, card stock, paper, ink, erasers, Sharpies, and Post-It notes, and other basic supplies to get through the rest of the year.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Watching tiny miracles every day is a true blessing, but that's exactly what happens in my classroom each day. My students come in, ready to learn and I work diligently to keep them engaged. I see light bulbs come on, as ideas sink in and concepts are mastered, with kids who rise to the challenges.
My students come from very poor homes, most from new-to-country families, and with a myriad of other challenges in their path each day.
Instead of using these challenges as an excuse, my students work hard to get what they need and master the content placed before them. Generally, our students have supportive families, though many of them do not always have the skills required to work with their students at home. These families love and care for their children and want their children to do well in school.
My Project
In order to do their best, my students need help filling in the gaps for the materials that we don't have enough of to get us through the rest of our school year. I am requesting 6 reams of color paper, card stock, a 12-pack of erasers, 5 packs of Sharpie markers, Post-It Notes, and a file organizer for storing the printing paper in. With these materials, we'll have enough supplies to get us through the rest of our time together, get the copies made that we need for our classwork, and keep our space functional.
My students don't come with the materials they need and I'm often left shelling out for the materials they need.
Having these items makes teaching my students easier and less stressful. It also means that the students who don't have the resources at home to bring in the materials we need don't have to feel like they've burdened their teacher.
