I teach advanced English and creative writing to high school students in upstate New York. Like so many communities across the country, our area has endured significant economic and demographic changes over the last couple of decades. Nonetheless, our families and students are resilient, determined and eager to make the world a better place.
My students are writers and readers who will soon enter the world of college and work.
They want to make their mark in the world, and it's my job to prepare them.
My Project
What a strange new world we're living in. We've been out of the classroom for over a month. Believe it or not, I'm just as busy now as I was when the world was in order. I'm busy because I've been spending a great deal of time and energy helping students to cope with their new circumstances. Lots and lots of individual attention and TLC. My favorite delivery method is the US Postal Service.
I am requesting a couple of graphic novels, some shipping supplies and postage reimbursement.
I send packages to students every couple of days. Sometimes the postage costs more than the contents of the big, puffy envelope, but it truly is the thought that counts in this case. Sometimes I send students books, but sometimes I send them gum or stickers or even yoyo's. At this point, it's as much about joy as it is about content.
Thank you for allowing me to carry on with my mailings.
