Scope Magazine Subscription

Help me give my students a subscription to Scholastic’s Scope Magazine. This has been one of my most helpful classroom resources, for comprehension skills, nonfiction and current event reading skills, as well as writing and delivering effective arguments.

My Students

I teach ELA to a diverse group of students who have immigrated from all over the world and live in a true melting pot neighborhood in Brooklyn. I have been teaching at the same junior high school for 20 years because of the amazing students, teachers, and excellent administration.

I am inspired everyday by the students I teach, for their optimism, enthusiasm, and desire for knowledge.

My ELA classes begin with accountable speaking skills, where we discuss the world around them; we read nonfiction and fiction in reading groups and work extensively on our writing. Also, each quarter is centered around a project.

My Project

Every month when the new Scope Magazine arrives, students can’t wait to dive in and read from all of the engaging genres. This magazine has been a game changer for me in teaching reading, writing and spoken literacy.

Students will annotate each article or story they read.

Scholastic also provides videos, and online activities that engage tech -savvy teens.

In a world where good journalism and engaging non fiction can be hard to find, and even more challenging trying to engage today’s teenagers, Scope Magazine constantly delivers. Please help support my students with a subscription to Scope Magazine for Mr. G.’s classroom. Thanks!
