My students need two microscopes to help them engage in hands on activities to help them understand cell structure. Students could also use microscopes to help them explore the world of microbes and create a better understanding and a connection to their Open Court reading theme "Medicine".

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I teach a 3rd and 4th grade classroom in Missouri. In my school more than 80% of the students receive reduced or free lunches. We are in an at-risk environment and need help in creating a hands-on and intrinsically motivated classroom. It is my goal to expose my students to as many elements of learning as possible in the 9 months I am blessed to have them.

My students are extremely interested in how germs are spread, what they look like, and how they affect people. They are also eager to create and look at diagrams of animal and plant cells. We are currently using pictures from the Internet to compare and contrast cells and their structures. We are unable to look at real cells under a microscope because we do not have the materials to do so.

I need at least two microscopes to offer my students hands on learning. I can supply slides and slide covers as well as a variety of specimens for my class to observe. Please help us!!

WIth your help we can influence the next doctor who may be the one to find a cure for cancer. Please help us to motivate and inspire my young learners to dive into science with a new microscope.
