My Students

Our school is in a rural area with 45% free and reduced lunch. I have a class of incredibly smart, loving, and kind fourth grade students. My teammate and I share approximately 60 students, with 20-25 with special needs (inclusion and pull-out). Many students receive "weekend food backpacks" to provide food/snacks when they are not in school. A few students have incarcerated parent(s), a handful live in violent, aggressive homes and see substance abuse on a daily basis. Regardless, these students come to school because it is safe and they want to learn.

Many of our students face obstacles outside the school, but we do our absolute best to provide them with a safe environment while under our care.

I want to provide an inviting learning environment that makes the student eager to learn in my classroom.

My Project

Scootpad allows students to navigate their learning on a specific path that meets their individual needs. Students complete an assessment that determines what concepts each student needs further instruction and practice on. Each student sets academic goals and is given incentives for achieving milestones on their learning paths. Due to the personalized instruction and practice being closely tied to common core standards, these paths will ensure student growth and proficiency for each student. This fun and interactive practice will make learning more meaningful and engaging for all students. Achieving such growth will lead to students being successful readers and lifelong learners.
