Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

This is my first year at our school, and I am so excited to have the opportunity to teach these kids to be physically active for a lifetime. We are a small school in Southwest Baltimore City and our school could use some new equipment. I am focused on teaching the whole student: body, mind, and soul and have some great ideas to expose them to new activities with a little help from some generous people. In my experience, students at all grade levels LOVE using scooters and I would love to be able to have a scooter for each student in my class so that we can use them more often for different games and activities.

My Project

Scooters have so many uses in Physical Education across all grade levels from simple relay races and tag games to Scooter Basketball and Scooter Soccer. I have never met a student that doesn't love having the chance to roll around the gym on a scooter. I am trying to get more scooters so that I have a full class set. I've chosen 16 inch scooters because this will allow me to use them with all of my students in PreK through 8th grade. My younger students have been having a great time use the few scooters that I have, but I really need more of the larger scooters so that I can bring these games to my older students as well.
