My classroom is compiled of an amazing group of learners that just happen to have multiple disabilities. In addition to having multiple disabilities, my students also come from low income homes. While there are several factors working against them, they come to school each day eager to learn.
My kids want to be successful and work very hard to achieve their goals.
The differences in learning styles and varying abilities require a lot of differentiation in instruction. They are learning what is considered typical high school content; however, the average reading level for my class is third grade. My goal is to provide them with a learning environment that encourages both social and academic success.
My Project
We are looking to start a mini craft store that will allow the students to earn money for the classroom account. My students come from low income homes and often times cant afford the things that would help them to feel included.
By earning money they will be able to purchase items such as yearbooks, graduation caps and gowns, and as well as dance tickets and school spirit apparel.
In addition to having monies available for your typical high school expenses, we would also like to earn money to purchase items for the classroom such as novels and other things that will engage the students throughout the school day.
