This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
It seems that everyone in the school needs glue and scissors. They always come to the art room to borrow from us. Therefore, we tend to run out of these things often.
We have many talented students at our school.
Many of them do not get much opportunity to explore the arts. My class offers them an introduction and the chance to gain an interest. We are a high poverty district with a majority of our students on free or reduced lunch. We often run out of art supplies and some years do not even have money in our budget to replace them.
My Project
The supplies that I am requesting will enable my students to complete a variety of projects. It seems we need glue and scissors for almost everything we do. This semester, we have only completed one 3-Dimensional architectural project and it wiped out most of our glue. I have several others paper mache projects and collage projects planned for the remainder of the year.
These supplies are important to my students because we will be able to study a variety of cultures with the projects that I have planned.
One of our favorites is the paper mache masks that we create. This one enables us to touch on many cultures including our favorite which is creating African Ritual Masks.
