I teach two sessions of kindergarten in a farming agricultural community, mixed with high density government housing.
Teaching these Kindergarteners is a thrilling adventure in new experiences!
We love trying new things, making new friends and learning in different ways to help us achieve our potential!
Some of these students have had rich preschool experiences, but some have had none. The one thing that brings them together is their excitement of learning. We celebrate each child's uniqueness and individual learning style.
My Project
I hope to create a learning environment where children develop a life long love of learning by using multiple sensory pathways
Brain research supports the idea that children learn best by using their senses.
It is through this kind of sensory play that they develop cognitive skills, social skills, fine and gross motor skills, and emotional skills. We now know that scientist, based on their studies of the brain, believe that in order for the brain to build nerve connections and pathways, it needs stimulation in the form of movement and sensory experiences. These pathways are what make it possible for students to later complete more complex skills when they mature. (Greenough & Blake 1992)
