Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a special education teacher who works with 4th and 5th graders in El Paso ,Texas. I have a small class of 8 students at the moment with the chance to grow at any time. My students are excited about learning and love being involved in hands-on activities and real-world learning applications. They also love to use technology and work with their peers. We are looking for fun ways to apply life long skills in our daily school lessons that they will be able to take with them everywhere they go.
My students are big readers and knowledge seekers!
As a teacher I love appreciate this and want to offer ways for this exploration to occur in our classroom daily. I wish is for them to take risks and explore life. My students come from a low income area of military, retired military and families where access to different hand on tools may be difficult.
My Project
These materials will be a great addition to our Math and science instruction. We will be able to use the circuit sets to learn about circuits and how they work. We also will be able to use them to practice throughout the rest of the year and build upon our skills through experimentation. The Building tools can be used in math to add hands on tools to build shapes and work out number problems. They can also be used in science to build different habitats, trees, flowers, animals and anything else they can think up. Creativity is hard to add to a classroom in today's Standards based instruction. THE Stem curriculum will help me as a teacher give my class better instruction and prepare them for life long learning inside of school and outside. Of course with great tools we also need a safe place to store them to use for years to come.
