My students need a backpack containing resource books, a science journal, safety goggles, a lab coat, and various items to be used for a science activity demonstration.
Being the "teacher" is always fun for young students. But, when you allow them to be the "scientist", their enthusiasm soars!
Energetic, cheerful, anxious to learn...these words perfectly describe my room full of kindergarten students.
Our sweet little school is located in the heart of a rural community in Alabama where the atmosphere is welcoming, but family involvement is low.
My Project
I have requested a backpack with resources to be used by the Scientist of the Week and his/her parents in preparing an activity to present to the class. Along with the resources there will be a lab coat, safety goggles, and a personal identification badge to be worn by the student during the presentation.
I believe the reason many parents avoid involvement with their child's education is not because they don't want to be involved, but because they don't know how.
Having a Scientist of the Week will provide a wonderful opportunity for parents and children to enjoy working on a school project together. Imagine the excitement as that student stands before the class, dressed as a scientist, with a parent watching as the activity is presented. How much is that experience and memory worth? Priceless!
