Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are learning English as a second language! They are vibrant fourth graders who have tough lives. My students have the highest goals, hopes and dreams, but due to life's hardships, they need help in attaining them! The sky is the limit for them as they dream of having an educated future!
My students live in the inner city and school is an oasis for them.
They fight through a lot of challenges and somehow never give up.
Language, with many parents being illiterate, and poverty are just some of the things they struggle with.
Our classroom is colorful and uplifting to offer hope to all who enter and study here!
My Project
In elementary school, children learn through many content areas: math, writing, reading, science, history. All these topics are extremely important but the one that truly encompasses them ALL is science! It is also the topic that truly captivates every child! What could be more exciting to a child than discovering the world around him/her?
We cannot predict the future but we do know that future jobs will require a very deep knowledge of science.
This opportunity cannot be wasted! We must act now to give our students the opportunities they deserve to study science standards deeply. Reading is a huge part of this. Our students read a lot digitally, but they also need books. In this proposal, I am asking for sets of science books for our library, books about STEAM ( integrating science, technology, engineering, art, and math), and an energy BINGO set to bring together many units about energy in the 4th grade!
I cannot express how much these materials can change children's lives. Having access to beautiful science literature and cutting-edge ideas is invaluable to their future! It can make the difference of succeeding or not.
