Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When I think back to my own education, I remember feeling most engaged in my learning through hands-on experiences in the classroom. Science activities create a powerful vehicle for learning. My students become fully immersed in discussing, writing, thinking, working together, and learning.
My school is located in a rural community in northern California.
We are a Title 1 school with many English Language Learners. Our students are proud of our school and love to learn. I look forward to going to work each day because my students are eager to gain knowledge and experience new things. In the past few years, we have created a school garden to focus on science and healthy eating. My students love our time digging, planting, and exploring outside.
My Project
I am requesting science journals, colored pencils, a pencil sharpener, and science clipboards because I believe that these materials will greatly enhance our science learning. When we study salmon, my students will be able to sketch the salmon from our tank and record their discoveries in their journal. When we go outside to the garden, we will be able to take our clipboards and pencils and record our findings. When we make solar ovens or electrical circuits, we will be able to write about these experiences. These materials will strengthen our science learning.
With your help, my students will have new materials in our classroom.
With our current supply budget, anything beyond paper and pencils is considered an extravagance. I believe that these materials are not extravagant but necessary in order to develop the love of learning. Thank you for your support!
