Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
What child doesn't like to complete art projects, work with paint, create sand sculptures? For my autistic students activities like these are not only fun, but help them increase their fine motor skills and help with their sensory issues.
Walking into a classroom of 9 happy and bright 3- 6 year old autistic children to teach them science is rewarding, yet challenging without the correct materials.
Fine motor activities are needed and without the art supplies needed my students are not getting what they need. This is the first time many of my students are entering a school environment so I want to make learning both fun and hands-on for them and what better way is there than combining art with science?
My Project
My students will use their materials to create art projects that go along with our science curriculum. For example, we will student different objects and textures, the texture prints will allow students to create tracings with just a simple back and forth crayon movement, which may sound easy, but is difficult for most of them. They will use the paint to paint picture of animals, bugs, and other creatures I bring into the classroom. They will use the dot to dot art supplies to practice fine motor skills and it will also help their muscle tone in their arms.
These supplies will make teaching science to these students fun and exciting.
They will get to use a different medium to share what they think, see, or want to learn. These supplies will also allow my students to be creative, share artwork with parents when sent home, and be individuals by creating what they want to share about what we explored in science class that day. It will also allow them to strengthen their fine motor skills.
