We are the home of the STARS! We have a very diverse group of students in all grade levels. Our school adopted a "house system". The inspiration came from the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia. Staff and students have been divided into 3 different houses, Orion, Polaris, and Vega. Students earn stars based on attendance, academic success, house respect, positive character traits, and behavior. This helps foster community within our school and allows students to bond with others outside of the classroom.
Each of my 5th grade students bring something unique to our class.
Through motivation and dedication we strive for excellence. We are a team and we learn together through ups and downs. "We are the Smartie Jolly Musketeers!" Smartie Jolly Musketeers is our class name. This class name that my students created on the first week of school describes them 100%. We strive for the best and encourage one another.
My Project
I am making the shift in my classroom. I am working hard on giving my students a rich science classroom environment with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
Students will be engaged, challenged, and building their knowledge on educational objectives.
These books are the ultimate NGSS 5th grade science set. The books will introduce science concepts while inspiring students through read-alouds.
I want my students to build confidence in asking questions, making meaning, investigating, creating, and sharing.
My goal is for our classroom to not have time frames, instead a classroom that is cross content rich. An environment that leaves my students excited about the next day.
