My Students

Our 2000 students come from a variety of backgrounds, are full of diversity and have various reading abilities. They love reading across genres and topics. They are currently craving Science themed books and manga. I can't keep them on the shelves!

My Project

My library serves a diverse group of students with many reading below grade level. Manga and graphic novels are a gateway to reading given the highly accessible nature of the literature. It encourages visual learning in books that introduce students to science concepts as well as fosters a love for reading.

Manga and graphic novels are great for reluctant readers and English Language Learners, where titles are an entryway to show students how science and literacy are a package deal.

Dragon Ball Z, Thief Among the Trees and more are all high-interest titles that will appeal to students at a variety of levels and can even help extend the abilities of higher-level readers by introducing students to different types of formats. Currently, science themes and manga are in high demand. Why not blend the two and get our students reading?
