I have been so fortunate to teach curious, passionate children for 17 years as a science cluster teacher for grades K-5. When I was hired, I was shown a stairwell where my "teaching materials" were kept and was told I would travel from room to room every period on three different floors (with no elevator)! I taught over 500 students every week for ten years and with perseverance, lots of organization and a bit of creativity. I tried my best to deliver science curriculum and content. Now we have been blessed with a new building that houses our pre-K-8th grade students and I have a beautiful science lab where I hope to not only deliver content but experiences as well!
It truly touches me to be a role model and inspiration for these children year after year, watching them grow and become young adults.
Even when they move onto our middle school, they come back to visit me, help out in my class, take in the new thematic decor, or feed our pets. The best is when they just want to be a part of my lessons and activities and see what's happening in the room!
My Project
In my Science Lab, students use iPads every day to enhance their learning. We use iPads to research, practice, and reinforce skills. Unfortunately due to Covid - 19 our school gave the majority of our iPads and laptops to all of our students to use when schools had been shut down during remote learning. Because we are still intermittently closed, we need to have equipment for in school technology. With the new guidelines we must follow due to COVID-19, my students can no longer share iPads and unfortunately we do not have enough iPads for each student to have one to use. We need more iPads in our classroom. iPads motivate and excite students to complete tasks and practice skills.
The possibilities are endless in the classroom with iPads.
My students are excited and eager when they have the opportunity use the iPads as a learning tool. The iPads are also a great way to accommodate various learning styles and individualize student learning. My students and I will greatly appreciate your help in providing more iPads for our classroom.
