This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Many of my students are from poor, single family homes. In fact, more than 90% of the students receive free lunches. The majority of my students are minorities therefore; many people do not believe in their ability to succeed academically. But as their teacher, role model, counselor, and mom (on some occasions.) I see future doctors, nurses, attorneys, judges, teachers, writers, fashion designers, and many more professions amongst my students! My students are special because regardless of the stereotypes inflicted upon them, my students believe in rising to the challenge!
My Project
Our school has implemented the STEAM program for the upcoming 2018-2019 school year. I would like to have all the hands-on materials ready and accessible for my students before the school year begins. Having an accessible, fully loaded STEAM cart inside the classroom would be beneficial so students can choose the items needed for their projects and have different project options all without having to wait on family/friends to purchase the materials for them. I also want my students to feel excited and inspired about STEAM. Lastly, I want my students to truly experience the difference between a traditional classroom versus a STEAM classroom.
