Science, Technology, and Engineering, Oh My!

My Students

Do you remember the natural curiosity you had as a child about the world around you? Well, my students are brimming with curiosity and questions about science, technology, history, and engineering.

The students in our school are eager to grow and learn.

This is a very diverse school, with students coming from a variety of backgrounds. Sixty-eight percent of students qualify for free or reduced priced lunch. These students are hard working and strive to always do their best!

My Project

My students need books and hands-on manipulatives. They need access to STEM focused books like Gravity and Energy. They also need STEM toys like Zoob models and a Q-Ba-Maze Big Box to provide them with hands-on experiences. Manipulatives, such as math puzzles and engineering toys will give tactile and visual learners an additional way to learn. Nonfiction science and math books are critical to enhance our classroom library. The requested books will help us to integrate Next Generation Science Standards and Common Core ELA standards. My students will use the nonfiction texts to support our units throughout the school year. The blending of both of these nonfiction books and manipulatives will open a world of discovery for my students. Together we will research, discover, and grow as lifelong learners. We will use these in our different science units throughout the year, which include: inventors, bridge building, geology, plants and seeds, technology of ancient civilizations, force and motion and more. This project will provide the tools for our entire year of science!

This project will enhance my students literacy through the topics of science, math, engineering, and history.

With science and engineering building models we will explore concepts as a class with these engaging materials. With the fulfillment of this project, learning and great ideas will be realized and as Dr. Seuss said, "The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."
